P1917 USN/USMC Dog Tags are OUT OF STOCK. OUR TAGS WERE PROMINENTLY FEATURED ON ALL CHARACTERS IN THE MOVIE "FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS" REPRODUCTION WWII U.S.M.C./U.S. NAVY DOG TAGS - 3 SETS OF P1940 TAGS ARE LEFT IN STOCK AFTER FILLING BACKORDERS. (Click on thumbnails to see larger image!) Used by the United States Marine Corps and United States Navy in World War Two, these oval tags first came into use around 1917. The P1917 was used by the U.S. Navy and seagoing Marines (Marines serving on ships) during World War One and the between wars period. Information on them was handwritten and acid etched, including a finger print on the reverse. This process involves the use of hazardous chemicals and I will not preform this process for you. I can provide a link for you on how it is done. Do so at your own risk. The P1940 came into use just before World War Two and information was usually machine stamped into them. Stocks of P1917's were often used up.
These are machine made replicas cut to shape using an original blank as a guide. I know of no one else offering these replica tags.

This type of chain was first introduced in Px's in mid 1943 and became the standard type chain by 1945. Used by the United States Marine Corps and United States Navy in late World War Two, it came in two sections, a short 4 1/2" chain and a longer 26" chain. You get both chains in an envelope simular to the WWII original. No tags included. This can opener was developed by the U.S. Army's Quartermaster Subsistance Laboratory in 1942. It was one of the U.S. Army's most sucessful designs and used unchanged as an issue item until recently. Often worn on a serviceman's dogtags by threading through the hole at the top of the P38 or by means of a safety pin. It was also included packed in certain rations. Modern P38's by Shelby, but basically the same as WWII. This can opener was developed by the U.S. Army in 1951. It was developed to open ammo cans. The P38's big brother, it could open ration cans twice as fast. |
